For the millions of readers who thrilled to THE HEART LISTENS here is its dazzling sequel. THE HEART LISTENS was the rich, sweeping saga of a gallant and glamorous woman, whose joys, sorrows and crises you shared… THE MIXED BLESSING is the story of beautiful young Toni Jenkins, the remarkable granddaughter of Elizabeth Quigley, the heroine of THE HEART LISTENS…a woman torn between her passion for the one man she desperately loved and loyalty to her family. Here is a novel that asks the most agonizing question that any woman will ever be called upon to answer.

I liked the book - an easy read. I found the heroine a little too good to be true - never wavering from the straight and narrow. But sitting outside, in a lounge chair - I was too comfortable to question much the validity of the events. The actual story though - the problems a family and especially the child of a mixed parentage faces - is definitely very true. Because this book was written a number of years ago - the prejudices portrayed here were very true. Unfortunately in this day and age, they still are except they are so very much more covert - on the surface we are a much more liberal society, but all the underlying prejudices are still there except mot people don't admit to them.Product details

Enjoyed the continuation of the Heart Listens family..brought the characters full circle ..I hope to read more of her works.
Wonderful sequel to THE HEART LISTENS. Relates very well to the 60's and 70's social issues. Love and faith carry the characters through difficult times.
EXCELLENT.....be sure to read THE HEART LISTENS first, then THE MIXED BLESSING second! Since it is a sequel they need to be in order to be enjoyed as the continuing saga of Elizabeth and her family unfolds. Elizabeth is a remarkable character whose life reminds me of a cat with nine lives. I have re-read these two books many times over the years and loved them each time! Highly recommend!
Another good book by one of my favorite authors. I enjoyed reading this sequel to The Heart Listens. Would like to see more books with similar stories.
A hard story to tell, but this author presents it so well. The Heart Listens starts this story, and it is a story that will touch
your heart. Everyone should have a mother and grandmother like the girl in this story had. I am going to read as many
books by this author as I can find. Good reading.
I have read ALL of Helen Van Slyke's books beginning 45 years ago when I was in high school. She writes about relationships and one can find their own life/problems/issues addressed in one of her many books. This is a sequel to The Heart Listens which should be read first. I was devastated when she passed away some years ago.
I thought I had read this book many years ago but now am not sure as I didn't remember it at all. Which was good. As was the book. It was an interesting story but in today's world, very unpolitically correct. Some of the ideas/issues in the book are outdated ones but it was still a good read & I finished it in 2-3 days. I gave it 4 stars for that reason. I encourage you to read it too. I don't think you'll regret it.
